Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right lens power for my reading glasses?
Reading powers (sometimes called "diopters") range from +1.00 (mild) to +4.00 (strong). The right strength depends on your age and how close you naturally hold reading material — most people in their 40s start with +1.00 to +1.50, with +0.25 stronger every few years. If you're not sure where to start, our magnification chart takes about 30 seconds and gives you a starting point. When in doubt, choose the lower strength — you can move up if needed.
What's the difference between Vista and Vista Plus?
Vista is our standard reading-glass range — clear single-vision lenses in metal, plastic and tinted frames. Vista Plus adds two specialty lens options: Blue Light (BLP) lenses, which filter the high-energy blue light from screens, and Photochromic lenses, which darken in sunlight and return to clear indoors. Both Vista Plus options are available in the same powers as the standard range.
Do blue light glasses really help?
Vista Plus Blue Light readers include a coating that filters around 40% of the blue light wavelengths most associated with digital eye strain and disrupted sleep cycles. If you spend long hours on screens — whether you need reading correction or not — they can reduce the dry, tired feeling at the end of the day.
How do photochromic readers work?
Vista Plus Photochromic lenses contain molecules that react to UV light. Outdoors they darken to a sunglass tint within a minute or two; back indoors (away from UV) they return to clear within a few minutes. They're a single pair that handles both reading and outdoor wear — useful for gardening, the beach, or anywhere you switch between sun and shade.
Are your tinted readers true sunglasses?
Yes — Vista Tinted readers have full sunglass-strength tinted lenses with UV protection, plus your magnification diopter built in. They're ideal for reading by the pool, on the deck, or anywhere outdoors.
Can I get the same frame with no prescription?
Some of our Vista Plus Blue Light frames are available in a "plano" (zero-strength) option, listed alongside the prescription variants on the product page.
How much is shipping, and how long does it take?
Shipping is free on orders over $50 within New Zealand. Orders are dispatched within 3 business days of payment by tracked courier. Standard delivery is 2–5 business days to most metropolitan and rural addresses. You'll receive an email with your tracking number once your parcel leaves us.
What's your warranty?
Every pair of Vista Readers is covered by a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects — hinges, lens coatings, frame breakage that isn't from impact damage. Wear and tear, scratched lenses from improper cleaning, or accidental damage aren't covered, but reach out and we'll always try to help.
Can I return or exchange my glasses?
If your glasses arrive faulty or you've been sent the wrong item, contact us within 14 days and we'll replace them at our cost. For change-of-mind returns we accept unworn glasses in original packaging within 14 days of delivery — return shipping is the customer's responsibility, and we'll refund the product price once we receive them back in original condition.
How do I look after my readers?
A few habits will get you years out of a pair: clean lenses with a microfibre cloth (or any fine cloth) and lens spray — never tissues, t-shirts or paper towels, which scratch the coating. Store them in the case when not in use, especially in bags. Avoid leaving them in hot cars; high temperatures can warp the frame and degrade the lens coating over time.
